You Know His Name Now: Sock’s MVP Rankings

3 min read

I have decided to move the MVP Rankings to Fridays from now on because many games are played on Thursday, and the stats can change quickly if I don’t get the article out in time.

Not much has changed in the rankings themselves. However, each league’s top five candidates have been playing great baseball. Let’s take a look at how they have done.

NL MVP Rankings

On the Bubble: Jurickson Profar, Alec Bohm, Ketel Marte, Elly De La Cruz, Will Smith

5. William Contreras – MIL: Last Week’s Ranking: #3
This week could have been better for William Contreras. He only hit .160/.222/.320 with 1 home run in his last 25 at-bats. It’s a rough week for him, but I won’t knock him out of the top 5 yet. He’s still slugging over .900

4. Bryce Harper – PHI: Last Week’s Ranking: #5
Harper has been incredible for the Phillies recently. His OPS is .996 over the last 2 weeks and 1.320 over the previous week. Harper is hitting .281/.390/.544 with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs through 171 at-bats. The Phils are hot, and so is Bryce Harper.

3. Marcell Ozuna – ATL: Last Week’s Ranking: #4
Ozuna once again took the NL lead in home runs and RBIs with 15 and 47, respectively. On the season, he is hitting .320/.402/.634 with a 1.217 OPS over the past week. He may be a DH, but he is hitting at an unbelievable level right now.

2. Shohei Ohtani – LAD: Last Week’s Ranking: #2
Another DH finds their way into the top 3, but you already know his name. Ohtani only hit .263/.333/.316 over his past 19 at-bats, but he still leads the NL in OPS. For now, he stays at number two.

1. Mookie Betts – LAD: Last Week’s Ranking: #1
Mookie Betts also had a disappointing week, only slugging .267. He still has a .330/.430/.540 slash line with 8 home runs that keep him number one. However, the string holding him there is getting thinner and thinner.

AL MVP Rankings

On the Bubble: Jordan Westburg, Rafael Devers, Brent Rooker, Tyler O’Neill, Ryan Jeffers

5. Gunnar Henderson – BAL: Last Week’s Ranking: On the Bubble
Gunnar Henderson is back in the top five after hitting .316/.519/.789 with 3 home runs over the past week. He is second in the AL in home runs with 16 on the year and safely secured the number five spot for the week.

4. Salvador Perez – KCR: Last Week’s Ranking: #2
It seems unfair to move Perez down the list after he hit .350/.381/.500 with a home run over the past week, but it had to be done. Regardless, Perez is hitting .337/.401/.551 with 9 home runs this season. He is doing fine and will stay in the rankings if he keeps playing like this.

3. Juan Soto – NYY: Last Week’s Ranking: #4
Soto followed up his poor week with an electric one. Soto hit .391/.481/.913 with 4 home runs over his last 23 at-bats. The Yankees are hot, and so is Juan Soto.

2. Aaron Judge – NYY: Last Week’s Ranking: #3
Speaking of hot, Aaron Judge has been unreal for New York lately. He has a 1.603 OPS in the last 15 days and a 1.400 OPS over the past week. He is hitting .276/.416/.611 with 15 home runs this season. Two of the Yankee’s best are doing their part.

1. Kyle Tucker – HOU: Last Week’s Ranking: #1
Kyle Tucker has been unreal for Houston. Tucker is hitting .294/.478/.1000 with 4 home runs over his last 17 at-bats. He leads the AL in home runs, OBP, SLG, and OPS. He is undoubtedly the AL MVP.
