This Fire Burnes: Sock’s Cy Young Rankings

3 min read

There were not many changes, but some new names found their way into my rankings. Who made the cut? (Stats as of Monday afternoon).

NL Cy Young Rankings

On the Bubble: Chris Sale, Javier Assad, Dylan Cease, Jordan Hicks, Logan Webb

5. Tyler Glasnow – LAD: Last Week’s Ranking: On the Bubble
Tyler Glasnow finds his way back onto my list after going 7 innings, striking out 8, and giving up 2 earned runs against the Mets. He has a 3.04 ERA on the year, with an NL-leading 95 strikeouts. There are guys with lower ERAs, but Glasnow has more strikeouts.

4. Reynaldo Lopez – ATL: Last Week’s Ranking: Outside the Bubble
I have yet to put Lopez on the bubble list, but I will put him in the top five now. Lopez has been getting starts for the first time since 2022 and has had multiple starts for the first time since 2021. He has a 1.73 ERA on the year, with a 1.08 WHIP and 55 strikeouts. He has two fewer starts than the guys on this list, so I’ll put him at number four.

3. Zack Wheeler – PHI: Last Week’s Ranking: #4
Wheeler went 6 solid shutout innings while striking out 9 against the Giants this past week. He lowered his ERA from 2.53 to 2.32 and brought his WHIP under 1.00. He moves up to number three on my list.

2. Shota Imanaga – CHC: Last Week’s Ranking: #1
Imanaga got hammered in his last start, giving up 7 earned runs and only striking out 1 batter. His ERA went from 0.84 to 1.86. I knocked Chris Sale out of the top five for having a bad outing. Luckily for Imanaga, he had a good cushion.

1. Ranger Suarez – PHI: Last Week’s Ranking: #2
Suarez moves back into the 1 spot. However, I am afraid it will not last long. He suffered a hand contusion and may miss a few starts. I’ll move him up to number one after Imanaga’s lousy start.

AL Cy Young Rankings

On the Bubble: Reese Olson, Tyler Anderson, Brady Singer, Marcus Stroman, Bryce Miller

5. Corbin Burnes – BAL: Last Week’s Ranking: Outside the Bubble
Burnes has been just outside the top 5 for a while, and now he finds his way into my rankings. In 12 starts, he has a 2.35 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 71 strikeouts in 72.2 innings for the Orioles. He has settled in nicely at Baltimore.

4. Luis Gil – NYY: Last Week’s Ranking: #4
Even with his outstanding performance last week, Gil still has not moved up a spot. He went 8 innings and only allowed 1 earned run while striking out 9 batters. His ERA is below 2.00 now, at 1.99. He has a real shot at AL ROTY and AL Cy Young.

3. Tanner Houck – BOS: Last Week’s Ranking: #3
Still stuck at number three on my list, Houck went 7 innings and struck out 6, allowing only 1 earned run. He lowered his ERA to 1.85. How much longer will he stay at number three?

2. Tarik Skubal – DET: Last Week’s Ranking: #2
Skubal had a fantastic outing against the Pirates. He pitched 7 innings, striking out 8 and only allowing 4 base runners. His ERA is 2.01, and he still leads the AL in WHIP with a 0.82. He’s getting very close to regaining the number-one spot.

1. Seth Lugo – KCR: Last Week’s Ranking: #1
Seth Lugo has found himself at the top of my rankings in back-to-back weeks. He went 6 innings and stuck out 5 while only allowing 1 earned run against the Twins this past week. He leads the AL in ERA with a 1.72 and continues to lead my AL Cy Young rankings.
