Did the Cowboys make the right move locking up Dak?

Dak Prescott was on his way to a career year within the first 4 and a half weeks of the season, throwing for 1,856 yards and tossing 9 touchdowns.  He was the NFL leader in passing yards through the first 4 weeks of the season on his way to a big payday.  After suffering a gruesome season ending ankle injury in week 5 against the New York Giants, that payday was in question.  Dak was already playing the 2020 season under the franchise tag and there were questions surrounding the Cowboys commitment to him.  Then he suffered a gruesome injury, which people thought would not bode well for the Mississippi State product.  All those questions were answered on Monday, when the Dallas Cowboys locked up there now franchise quarterback Dak Prescott, to a tune of $160 million spread across 4 years with $126 million guaranteed.  Was it the move right for the Cowboys? Or should they have traded him?  Dak Prescott has compiled a 1-2 playoff record and had his best season as a rookie in 2016.  He and fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott led the Cowboys to a 13-3 record and securing the number one seed in the playoffs.  However, they did not make it past the divisional round, losing to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.  Overall, Dak has compiled a regular season record of 42-27 with the Cowboys.  Although he does have a positive record with the team, the Cowboys overall have been very inconsistent with Dak Prescott at the helm.  They went from 13-3 his rookie year to 9-7 in 2017, 10-6 in 2018 and 8-8 in 2019 with only one playoff win.  Yes, Dak is not all to blame but he is the quarterback of America’s team there is going to be a spotlight on him.  He puts up solid numbers for the Cowboys but if those stats do not translate to wins, they are all irrelevant.  The Cowboys definitely took a risk locking up Dak, but I do think it was the right move for the organization.  They have all the pieces they could want on offense, however their defense needs to improve drastically from 2020 if they want a shot at contending for the Super Bowl.
