NFL Saturday Divisional Preview

4 min read

Wildcard weekend has come and gone.  Six NFL teams have played their final game of the 2020-2021 season.  There were many surprises, but none bigger than the Cleveland Browns coming out and stomping the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Let’s take a look ahead to this weekend’s divisional matchups.

Los Angeles Rams @ Green Bay Packers 4:35 PM Saturday, January 16th

The Los Angeles Rams emerged victorious against Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.  Despite Rams’ Quarterback Jared Goff having to come in due to John Wolford’s injury.  Goff, a week removed from thumb surgery did an excellent job at controlling the game.  They come into Lambeau with the hottest defense left in the playoffs.  However, the Packers have Aaron Rodgers and DaVante Adams.  The duo has been virtually impossible to stop this year.  Head coach Matt LeFleur has the Packers offense firing on all cylinders.  The defense will have to play a flawless game and at least try to slow down Adams and Rodgers for a shot in this one.  Given the way the Packers offense has been rolling, I do not think that is possible.

Game Prediction: Rams 17 Packers 34

Baltimore Ravens @ Buffalo Bills 8:15 PM Saturday, January 16th

The game of the week.  The Baltimore Ravens are entering Orchard Park on a six-game win streak, with the Ravens playing their best on both sides of the ball.  Lamar Jackson has returned to his MVP form and secured his first playoff win.  The Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen have been on a tear this season.  Josh Allen is having his best year as a pro and has inserted himself in MVP talks.  Bringing in Stefon Diggs was the best thing that could have happened for the quarterback, they quickly formed a friendship that has blossomed on the field.  Will Josh Allen be forced into making mistakes vs a thirsty, ball-hawking Ravens defense?  The roll that the Baltimore Ravens are on continues in this one.

Game Prediction: Ravens 33 Bills 21

Cleveland Browns @ Kansas City Chiefs 3:05 PM Sunday, January 17th

The Cleveland Browns shocked the world last Sunday night in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania defeating the Steelers 48-37.  Baker Mayfield played excellent in his first playoff game and the duo of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt picked up right where they left off.  The Cleveland Browns should only be getting stronger as well, getting their head coach Kevin Stefanski and cornerback Denzel Ward off of the COVID-19 reserve list.  The Chiefs are coming off a bye week looking to begin the playoff defense of the Lombardi.  Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs this year have been absolutely electric.  The Cleveland Browns have the run game to chew clock and keep Mahomes off the field, but does Baker Mayfield have the arm to make the crucial plays? I do not think so, Chiefs advance to the AFC championship.

Game Prediction: Browns 20 Chiefs 38

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints 6:40 PM, Sunday January 17th

Tom Brady vs Drew Brees part III.  The first game was a battle, the second was a stomping from the Saints, what will the third be?  The Buccaneers seem to finally be clicking. The mid-season acquisition of Antonio Brown seems to be heating up at the best moment possible and Tom Brady looks to continue his post season dominance.  Drew Brees may be in the final days of his career and the veteran signal caller is looking to defeat Tom Brady for the third time this year. The Drew Brees to Micheal Thomas connection was back to form last week and look for Brees to try to build on that for them to win this game.  Will Brady be defeated for the third time this year by Brees?  Due to Brady’s dominance in the postseason and my belief that he will not let someone beat him three times in a season, Brady and the Bucs defeat Drew Bree’s Saints and send Drew to the commentator booth.

Game Prediction: Bucs 34 Saints 28
