Philly Philly, the Wentz era is over

Frank Reich got his quarterback.  After three years of having three different starting quarterbacks, the Indianapolis Colts look to finally have long term stability at the position.  The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that could turn into a first.  What does this mean for both teams?

The Philadelphia Eagles are turning to Jalen Hurts as the starter in 2021.  Since the 2017 Super Bowl winning season, the Philadelphia Eagles have been subpar, posting a 22-25-1 record.  Wentz and the entire team have faced a multitude of injuries and the offense has not looked the same ever since Frank Reich left.  2020 was a tumultuous season, it ended up with a Carson Wentz benching, a 4-11-1 record and ultimately Doug Pederson getting fired.  After coming in for a benched Carson Wentz during the 2020 season, Jalen Hurts went 1-3 in his first four starts of his career.  He had his best game of his young career against the Arizona Cardinals, in which he threw for 338 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Although they ultimately lost this game, he definitely showed the potential to be a dynamic dual-threat quarterback in the NFL.  I believe first year head coach Nick Sirianni will tailor his offense to Jalen Hurts abilities, simplify the game for him, and let Jalen do what he does best.

Frank Reich is a happy man.  In 2017, Carson Wentz was having a career year until he tore his ACL in week 14.  Wentz was on his way to an MVP campaign and a deep playoff run that ultimately happened without him at the helm.  Frank Reich was a maestro conducting that offense.  Fast-forward 3 years and everyone is now searching for the Carson Wentz that threw for nearly 3300 yards and 33 touchdowns before injury.  Since taking over the Colts after the 2017 season, Reich has posted a 28-20 record.  Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett, and Philip Rivers have been at the helm of Franks offense the past three years and he has always gotten the best out of every one of them.  Reich has built the Colts into contenders.  They have a studly defensive unit, one of the best offensive lines in football and not to mention all the weapons on offense.  It is a low risk, high reward situation for the Colts, I believe with a steady offensive line combined with Reich’s coaching Wentz can return to an MVP form in 2021.
