Week 3 NFL Review: Can the Rams Go All the Way?

8 min read

Returning to the article format, I am going to give a brief takeaway for each team with the conclusion of week 3 in the NFL.

Panthers vs Texans. 24-9

Panthers 3-0: They looked good against the Texans on the whole and improved to 3-0. However, they lost McCaffrey and Jaycee Horn to injury. McCaffrey will be back at some point but it seems like Jaycee Horn may miss the whole year. They did trade for CJ Henderson which is nice but can they overcome not having McCaffrey on offense?

Texans 1-2: The Texans looked subpar but they have so many holes. Expectations were extremely low for them and so far they don’t look too bad. They may win another game or two down the road but this team won’t make much noise this year.

Colts vs Titans. 16-25

Colts 0-3: I picked the Colts to win the division and boy do they look rough. Carson Wentz looks better than he did last year but that isn’t saying much. They are really going to need to step it up.

Titans 2-1: The Titans may have lost Arthur Smith but they do not look too bad. Tannehill is holding his own with the great weapons around him. I thought they would take a big step back and think they did but, this division is so bad that at this rate, they should win the AFC South.

Falcons vs Giants. 17-14

Falcons 1-2: They may have won but this team isn’t good. Matt Ryan has seen his better days unfortunately and it is time to pass the torch. Mike Davis and Kyle Pitts can’t seem to get targets and the defense is not good. It is going to be a long year ahead of them.

Giants 0-3: This team has too much talent to be as bad as they are and yet here we stand. The Giants are bad. Joe Judge doesn’t seem to have redeeming qualities as a head coach and the offensive line is horrible. Just like the Falcons, the Giants have a long year ahead of them.

Chargers vs Chiefs. 30-24

Chargers 2-1: That was a statement win. To be able to outduel Mahomes in Arrowhead is a big deal if you are Justin Herbert. A well-played game by the Chargers overall.

Chiefs 1-2: The Chiefs are in an unusual spot. Mahomes still looks good but not as sharp as he usually looks. The Chiefs can’t run the ball consistently and they can’t stop the run. The Super Bowl hangover is looking very real right now.

Bengals vs Steelers 24-10

Bengals 2-1: I have to admit, the Bengals look better than I thought they would. Mixon is second in the league in rushing and the defense looks solid. I still don’t think this team is for real but much better than I thought.

Steelers 1-2: When the Steelers beat the Bills I thought they have been better than I thought. Between injuries and the offense taking a step back from this year, the Steelers look rough. Big Ben may have finally seen his better days.

Bears vs Browns 6-26

Bears 1-2: A lot of teams looked terrible this week but the Bears were another breed of bad. The Bears had less total offense than Justin Tucker’s 66-yard field goal. They gave up 9 sacks and left Justin Fields out to dry. Matt Nagy needs to go.

Browns 2-1: Browns looked good overall but they played the Bears so use that information as you wish. Myles Garrett had 4.5 sacks as he continues to prove he is a top defensive talent in the NFL.

Ravens vs Lions 19-17

Ravens 2-1: I think the Ravens have the best kicker ever. Ravens did not dominate as I thought they would but overall not too bad of a performance. Going to need to step it up against better teams like Denver next week.

Lions 0-3: Ugh. The pain never ends. They invent new ways to lose. The one promising takeaway is that they put a solid game plan together against Lamar Jackson with practically no secondary. The future is bright (not too bright) for the Lions moving forward if they can hit on their draft picks.

Saints vs Patriots 28-13

Saints 2-1: The Saints are a rollercoaster. They look great, then terrible, and now great again. I would give you my opinion but it will probably be invalidated by the end of the next week.

Patriots 1-2: Mac Jones has looked like the best rookie quarterback but that isn’t saying much. The Patriots have a lot of growing pains to deal with Mac Jones but I’m confident he will continue to grow.

Cardinals vs Jaguars 31-19

Cardinals 3-0: Kyler has looked very good through the first three games but I want to see him be more careful with the ball. I also think he is making Kingsbury look good. He might be fired if they don’t make it to the playoffs.

Jaguars 0-3: Oh boy. Urban Meyer, what is going on? This team looks pretty lost overall and they traded away CJ Henderson. This team better figure it quickly or they are going to be picking #1 overall again.

Washington vs Bills 21-43

Washington 1-2: The defense of this team is a bit overrated. They were the number 1 defense last year and I think it is evident they took a step back. They can’t seem to figure out the quarterback situation either. I think this team is good but not great.

Bills 2-1: The Bills are showing that the week 1 loss to the Steelers was a fluke. They have been lighting it up ever since and it looks Josh Allen is starting to return to last year’s form.

Jets vs Broncos 0-26

Jets 0-3: Yikes. Zach Wilson is not good right now and I’m not sure he ever will be. This team looks completely lost and I’m not sure that they will find their way out of the abyss anytime soon.

Broncos 3-0: I’ve been telling people this Broncos team is legit. Yes, they beat the Jets but they shut them out. In today’s NFL, that is a statement. The only enemy they have right now is injuries and if they continue to pile up then I will be concerned. Until then, Denver is a top team in this league.

Dolphins vs Raiders 28-31

Dolphins 1-2: This Dolphins team is a legit quarterback away from being great. Tua is hurt but he isn’t a game-changer. This may just be a down year for Miami.

Raiders 3-0: I underestimated how much of an impact Gus Bradley would have on this defense. As of now, this team is winning games when they should. Hopefully, they don’t collapse again.

Seahawks vs Vikings 17-30

Seahawks 1-2: What is going on up in the northwest? That defense looks way worse than I thought. They need to figure it out as they did at the end of last year to stay in it.

Vikings 1-2: The Vikings won but my confidence in them is still not there yet. This win was a step in the right direction and saves Mike Zimmers job for now

Buccaneers vs Rams 24-34

Buccaneers 2-1: Can’t win them all. I would not be too worried if I were them but that secondary is looking really rough right now. They’ll need to make some big adjustments before it gets out of hand.

Rams 3-0: As us Lions fans have said, Stafford is that guy and he is proving it right now. He has looked elite through the first three games as the high-powered Rams look like an early NFC favorite.

Packers vs 49ers 28-30

Packers 2-1: It only took Aaron Rodgers 37 seconds to get the Packers down to the field to get the walk-off-field goal. I think it is clear that the Packer’s week 1 loss was a fluke. The Packers look legit right now.

49ers 2-1: Not quite sure what to make of this team. I do think Trey Lance can put this team over the edge. Jimmy G is there to steady the ship and I think that is what he is doing as of now. But, if the 49ers want to take that next step, they better consider moving on soon.

Eagles vs Cowboys 21-41

Eagles 1-2: The Eagles looked bad. No attempt at a run game and half the team is hurt. This team is right back where I thought they would be and that is not good for them.

Cowboys 2-1: The Cowboys on the other hand look great. The defense looks like it has life and Dak is completing his passes at a high rate. This division is the Cowboys to lose.
